Last week, I wrote about the latest presidential limousine from Cadillac. And just a while ago, I encountered a post at Popular Mechanic entitled “The Secret Seven: The Top Presidential Limousines of All Time,” enumerating the seven vehicles that have been specially-built to meet the needs of U.S. presidents.

So what are these vehicles and who were the president that they served?
1. 1939 Lincoln “Sunshine Special” — Franklin Roosevelt
2. 1950 Lincoln Cosmopolitan — Harry S. Truman and Dwight Eisenhower
3. 1961 Lincoln Continental SS-100-X — John F. Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon
4. 1972 Lincoln Continental — Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan (both were saved from assassinations by the said car)
5. 1983 Cadillac Fleetwood
6. 2001 Cadillac Deville — George W. Bush
7. 2009 Cadillac Presidential Limousine — President Barrack Obama
Each of these vehicles has its own story. The 1950 Lincoln Cosmopolitan, for instance, was said to have come to life due to ex-President Truman’s dislike for GM because said company refused to lend him its vehicles during his campaign. And while the 1961 Lincoln Continental was the auto ex-President Kennedy was riding in when he was assassinated, the 1972 Lincoln Continental saved two ex-presidents, Gerald Ford and Ronal Reagan, from supposed assassinations.
Several units of the latest presidential limousine from Cadillac will be produced, and Popular Mechanics said it could probably be at least a dozen. Let’s all see what stories this new limo will create.
