This year is supposed to mark a new beginning for many automakers after the struggle during the last quarter of 2008. And indeed, strategies after strategies are already being tried to help automakers get on with business—zero percent financing, cash back, Hyundai’s latest Assurance Program, the merging of automakers (that of Fiat and Chrysler is the latest), as well as the closing of vehicle brands and line-ups.

And while browsing Yahoo a while ago, I read an article written by Sean Tucker entitled “6 Cars on Death Row.” It enumerated the six vehicles whose life are in danger this year because they are in the line toward perish. Another strategy automakers are employing to cope with the crisis is the closing of some of their brands and line-ups, and the six are among those affected. Just what are these vehicles? Sean tucker says these are “the convertibles, the supercars, the cute icons that don’t fit into neat categories.”

And what are these? Here they are:

1.  Honda S2000

2.  Chrysler PT Cruiser

3.  Saturn Sky

4.  Hummer H3

5.  Dodge Viper

Oops, here’s the last one: the Lexus SC! This 2-door, 4-passenger ride is a convertible that combines the comfort offered by luxury automobiles and the freedom that an open ride provides. Tucker refers to the SC as the most comfortable luxury convertible among the few true ones left today. It comes with a standard 4.3L 288-hp V8 engine and is capable of achieving 16 mpg in the city and 23 in the highway. With the SC’s demise after this year, Lexus is left with no convertible model.

Too bad for such a nice ride, but it’s not yet too late for those who want a convertible Lexus. There’s still a chance of getting a Lexus SC before the year ends.
