There’s a lot of things we shouldn’t do while driving. No texting, no calling, no eating and drinking, the list is long. State legislators seem to be tackling each of these one by one, and New Jersey is one of the very active states when it comes to these kinds of driving measures.
After the ban on texting and calling while driving, another NJ legislator is aiming at auto GPS systems. That is, only those programmed manually. Harvey Smith, a Democratic Assemblyman, is working on a bill that would ban manually programming GPS systems while driving.
The bill doesn’t cover hands-free, voice-assisted systems. And if you have the manual GPS, you can still keep it. Just pull over every time you have to fiddle with your GPS, or have a passenger do the fiddling for you. Otherwise, you would be fined a hundred dollars.
Next bill, please.
